MUNICH—Cinegy has announced it is partnering with Quantum to integrate Cinegy software with Quantum StorNext® software to enable superior production storage, archive storage and data management.
With StorNext solutions installed in the most demanding rich media environments, Quantum and Cinegy can provide best of breed technology and applications to meet the evolving needs of high definition (HD) and beyond.
Cinegy Manging Director, Daniella Weigner commented, “ We have worked with multiple customers who have implemented Cinegy solutions with Quantum StorNext technology. The success of these projects has motivated both Quantum and Cinegy to develop this relationship further and to continuously strive to meet the shared goals of cost-effectiveness, scalabilty and flexibility.”
Quantum StorNext data management software enables broadcasters to accelerate revenue generation through optimized workflows, while archiving and protecting more content at a lower cost. Cinegy can be used in conjunction with the StorNext File System to provide enhanced resilience to a video file server architecture. By using a SAN file system (SNFS) to format SAN volumes, the same volumes can be mounted for simultaneous read and write operations on multiple Windows servers. With the same data presented from the SAN disks, the file servers can then access that data via normal Windows shares for Cinegy to consume. Asingle, centrally-managed UNC path can be created that connects the Cinegy system to shares within the Microsoft Distributed File System services . Should any individual server fail, that share will become unavailable and clients will transparently fail over to an alternate server , which is ideal for maintenance, storage upgrades and system expansion.
Expanding the StorNext File System with the StorNext Storage Manager™ system, customers can benefit from transparent backups as well as virtualisation of the data; moving the data from high-performance disk to commodity disk, MAID or tape. For long-term content retention and re-purposing, StorNext expands storage pools into multi-tier archives including digital tape, automatically moving and copying content between different storage resources to reduce costs and protect content. Advanced data-in-place features allow migration without interruption, along with technology refresh without downtime; move from old equipment to new with minimal effort – all protecting the core assets held by the Cinegy system.
The Cinegy system can monitor file systems for data that has been moved by StorNext to data tape, and present a user with appropriate options to recover content or work with proxy formats – benefitting customers with an archive that is large but still requires quick, seamless retrieval.
Both Cinegy and Quantum are exhibiting at NAB Show 2010 in Las Vegas, April 12 – 15th.
