LOS ANGELES—At the upcoming National Association of Broadcasters Convention, Cinegy (www.cinegy.com) plans to unveil a new product, Cinegy Connect & Route, capable of converting SD and HD SDI signals into broadcast-quality, low latency RTP streams. Cinegy Connect & Route, which can function as a standalone system or can be used as an adjunct to Cinegy’s broadcast workflow solution Cinegy Workflow, enables broadcasters to reduce their reliance on expensive SDI infrastructure in favor of RTP-based Ethernet networks offering greater capacity, enhanced flexibility, higher quality and lower cost.

“Cinegy Connect & Route is an ideal solution for broadcasters that want to save money and simplify their workflows,” said Cinegy Managing Director Jan Weigner. “It is applicable to organizations that have multiple news feeds coming in as well as those involved in syndication—any broadcaster, in short, that needs to manage complex incoming or outgoing programming streams.”

Cinegy Connect & Route is designed, in part, for broadcast operations that receive a large number of satellite feeds. The new product has the ability to directly capture feeds from satellite receivers and transfer them to an Ethernet network for editing, archiving or play-out without further transcoding. The system, which is currently being used by Turkish broadcaster Dogan TV, can enable a broadcaster to capture, manage and route 200 or more satellite feeds simultaneously.

Cinegy Connect & Route also has the ability to ingest SD and HD SDI streams from any standard playback device and encode them as RTP streams at speeds up to 100 mbps. Once on the network, the streams are available for logging, editing, branding and other production activities, as well as immediate play-out, all in real-time and all without additional transcoding.

“Individual streams can be accessed from any point in the network,” observed Weigner. “When this is done in the context of the Cinegy Workflow, there is no generation loss, preserving maximum signal quality.”

“The system can also manage SD/HD simulcasts, with up-rezzing or down-rezzing and the appropriate logo insertions,” Weigner added. “Cinegy Air, our broadcast automation play-out component, can then be used to control multi-channel play-out and internet broadcasting.”

Cinegy also plans to introduce a second new product at NAB, Cinegy Monitor. It can be used to monitor RTP streams from satellites, camera feeds, play-out devices and other sources. Multiple SD and HD sources can be displayed in windows, adjustable for size, position and resolution, on a single display—or multiple displays.

Cinegy Monitor offers a number of advantages over hardware devices that monitor SDI feeds. For one, Cinegy Monitor has the ability to capture a multiplexed feed from a satellite transponder, and therefore receive 16 or more channels simultaneously rather than just one. Additionally, captured singles are available for monitoring by anyone on the network and not only on a wall mounted control room display.

Cinegy Monitor features a robust alert system for signal problems as well as meters for audio and VU analysis. “Cinegy Monitor can do anything a hardware monitoring system with greater flexibility and significantly less cost,” Weigner said.
