Cinegy is Pleased to Present New Version of Cinegy Air SD / Cinegy Air HD at IBC

New version of  Cinegy’s award winning broadcast automation and playout server solution that offers the most advanced solution at entry level SD prices and is upgradeable to HD without breaking the bank.

Cinegy Air meets the most demanding requirements even of the busiest master control rooms. The amount of functionality that is integrated with the new version has risen even further. Now compliance recording as required by law in most countries, can be performed by Cinegy Air as well. Even when passing through a live signal and just inserting a station logo Cinegy Air can do 24/7 confidence recording “on the side” eliminating the need for purchasing another solution. Of course this feature works for HD as well. Other notable features include CEA-708 closed caption support for Cinegy Air HD and the ability to handle animated logos and transitions.

Cinegy Air executive summary:

  • Cinegy Air is the most highly integrated playout server and automation solution
  • Can be remote controlled via any TCP/IP network connection (with remote monitoring)
  • Mixed video formats playback (MPEG, DV, MXF, etc.)
  • Real-time insertion of logos and titles and rendering  of edit sequences straight to air
  • Playback straight off central storage but for high-availability purposes pre-fetch of all to local cache storage dynamically
  • Two Cinegy Air playout servers can be clustered as master/slave for frame accurate failover
  • Full Cinegy Workflow media asset management integration or stand-alone operation
  • Open extensible architecture with open API to extend the functionality and to integrate 3rd party devices or legacy devices

Introducing Cinegy Air News / Cinegy Air News HD

Many Cinegy customers have been waiting for the features of Cinegy Air to be available also for their MOS protocol based news room. With Cinegy Air News all the great features and functions of Cinegy Air can now be controlled via the standard MOS protocol so that any rundown of a news show is immediately reflected in the playout server and ready to go to air without any delay, transfer, or need to render any edit sequences. Furthermore, integrated trick mode and crash playback features remove the need for any studio VTRs or other special video servers.

Cinegy Final Workflow - Cinegy Media Workflow integrates with Apple’s Final Cut Pro

IBC 2006 sees the result of intensive development work with the help of both Apple and Siemens to make this integration possible. Any video material ingested, logged, edited or simply stored in the Cinegy Workflow media asset management system for archival purposes is immediately accessible to any Final Cut Pro user. No transcoding, no transfer, no difficult importing, just drag & drop. This puts TV production based on Apple’s Final Cut Pro integrated in the Cinegy Workflow environment onto the next level, providing end-to-end production and broadcast solution that easily scale to hundreds of concurrent users. Looking at Apple’s hardware and storage prices it becomes immediately clear what level of savings are possible.

Introducing Cinegy MediaCleaner & Cinegy MediaMover

Cinegy’s new MediaCleaner and MediaMover answers the requests of many broadcast customers. Some customers are ingesting hundreds if not thousands of hours of video material per week. Whether the customer is a government agency monitoring dozens of TV channels, a news channel ingesting dozens of video news feeds or one of the many reality TV productions that use Cinegy for their real-time production needs, they all have one thing in common: they will only ever require a fraction of the ingested material at the end of the day, week or month. This so far has been mostly a manual process of material elimination. With the Cinegy Workflow environment the fact that the material ingested can exist also in as many as five different proxy qualities made this even more complex. The new Cinegy MediaCleaner allows automating of this. It checks after a predefined timeframe (which can be set individually per production) or can be started manually and finds out which material is really being used and which is not and can be safely deleted.  Cinegy MediaCleaner will do so; leave the material that is being used (including all associated metadata) plus a predefined amount of trim-handles for all resolutions of video including all proxy resolutions. In conjunction with the Cinegy MediaMover material can then also be moved from expensive storage to lesser expensive storage e.g. from production storage to archive storage.

Cinegy Adds Support for Panasonic P2

Cinegy is now going truly tapeless with the support of Panasonic’s P2. The new version of Cinegy Ingest shown at IBC 2006 adds full support for P2 and the first customers already have received shipment of this version and are already using it for day-to-day production work.  Within minutes, the entire content of a P2 card can be transferred into the Cinegy Workflow system or only selected content can be chosen which is then being transferred.  In either case the user can choose to have proxy video copies to be created on the fly and/or additional shot / scene change detection to be applied. The combination of Panasonic P2 media and Cinegy’s Ingest module shows the ideal workflow. What used to take “real-time” using tape now has been reduced to a fraction, really saving time for that now can be used to bring breaking news to air faster.

Cinegy Goes MXF for Better AVID Support

Cinegy’s commitment to MXF has already been demonstrated from the very beginning with the support of formats such as Sony’s XDCAM. Now Cinegy’s decision to allow the use of MXF as native internal media format for all its archive, media asset management system, ingest and playout solutions further underscores this. The MXF format Cinegy has decided to use is the same MXF format as AVID uses with the goal to improve interoperability with AVID’s product range further. The idea here is to avoid the need to transcode any media moving material back and forth between AVID’s NLE’s and the Cinegy Workflow solution.

Cinegy Monitoring Solution

The Cinegy Monitor solution allows monitoring of all incoming and outgoing video signals in a Cinegy system. This is an entirely software based solution that can be installed on any PC in the facility. The only requirement is that this PC is also connected to the same TCP/IP network. As all Cinegy Ingest and Cinegy Air playout servers are broadcasting a compressed real-time video signal on the network, each of these signals can be monitored using the “Cinegy Monitor Wall” application, which allows the user to customize his virtual monitor setup meeting his monitoring requirements. This is another piece in the puzzle to reduce the amount of SDI and other video and audio cabling required in a broadcast facility.

Enterprise Scalability – Introducing Multi-database Support

The new multi-database support capability was designed to allow scaling Cinegy Workflow media asset management solution to even bigger scale than before.  Until now the Cinegy applications could only connect to one database server, which could be clustered to scale performance, but not to multiple, different database servers and/or databases at the same time. Now Cinegy applications can connect to multiple databases which allow physical splitting of database content, e.g. in old and current archive material. For many workflows where most of the work is going to be on current material and not old material, for instance news, this allows to increase the efficiency and performance considerably. In large enterprise environments the multi-database support allows to have separate database servers for the departments and one or multiple databases for the entire company. As this also allows the storage for each of the databases to be assigned separately, this allows keeping most of the databases and storage network traffic inside a department.  For each user group it can now be defined which database he or she is allowed to connect to and what they can do.  Despite the separation between the databases, authorized users can move objects across from one database to another and if required also move along the needed essence.

Using these techniques and given the scale that existing Cinegy installations already have today, it is now guaranteed that Cinegy Workflow enterprise solutions now have no technical size limitations anymore in terms of amount of users and size of manageable amount of data.
