NAB 2026 Recap
NAB 2026 Recap
We sat down with Jan, Cinegy CTO, and asked him to answer some of the questions that came out of meetings at NAB.
Topic: Cloud virtualization and software-defined production
Question: Virtualized and software-based systems are reshaping how media infrastructure is built and scaled. This topic explores cloud, on-prem, and hybrid models driving flexibility, resilience, and efficiency.
Answer: The cloud has not proved the savior of the media industry as some predicted. Media producers and distributors like to have their content and their workflows where they can see them, and the business models of the big cloud providers still do not reflect the unique challenges of our industry. Modern software design means very high performance can genuinely be achieved on existing COTS hardware, for very flexible, very scalable systems design with the minimum of hardware cost.
Topic: The media supply chain
Question: From ingest to delivery, media organizations are connecting once-siloed systems through orchestration and automation. This topic highlights tools and workflows that reduce friction across production, post, and distribution.
Answer: Standards are proliferating; SDI, SRT, ST-2110; resolutions to meet quality goals or fit bandwidth constraints; in-house networks and the via Internet. Broadcasters and streamers demand rich metadata alongside programs, and they will use AI to generate it if it is not supplied. At every step along the content chain you need the ability to interpret incoming formats and resolutions, manage in-house standards and storage, and prepare multiple versions for on-going delivery of essence and metadata, which demands powerful, agile processing like the Cinegy platform.
Topic: Live production and control rooms
Question: Modern control rooms are designed for flexibility across broadcast, streaming, and events. Coverage focuses on switching, automation, monitoring, and infrastructure built for hybrid production environments.
Answer: Under the pressure of a live broadcast or event, you need to know that incoming feeds – local and remote – will be correctly displayed, timed and switched, ready for distribution in multiple formats for multiple users. At the center of any live production center is the multiviewer, putting the maximum number of sources on the minimum number of screens, with the layout dynamically tailored to the specific needs of the production. Cinegy Multiviewer is completely flexible and fully customizable, driving screen resolutions up to 8k for the most efficient use of space.
Topic: Corporate and enterprise media production
Question: Enterprise media teams continue to adopt broadcast-grade tools and workflows. This section examines studio design, production systems, and operational strategies shaping professional corporate production.
Answer: Government, corporate, education, houses of worship and more are adopting creative media for messaging, communication and engagement. Their audiences expect the highest technical and production standards, so providers depend on vendors like Cinegy who make the tools broadcast professionals rely upon and offer them as packaged solutions at the right price point. This depends upon powerful, agile software which can be hosted on standard computers and be confidently operated by those with little experience.
